Sweet Mikayla is 5 years old and has been diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis, a condition that causes tumors to form in the brain, spinal cord, and nerves. On July 28th, she underwent surgery to remove a tumor she has in her brain, which was, thank God, successful!
On May 11, 2021, Halie was in a severe car accident. She suffered multiple life-threatening injuries including: a traumatic brain injury (TBI), occipital fractures, fractures to her spine, facial fractures and trauma to her ear, chest trauma (fractured sternum, broken clavicle, fluid around the heart, and multiple broken ribs), multiple pelvic fractures, and a broken ankle. She was in the hospital for 28 days and was then transferred to a specialty, neuro-rehab. Even though we hit some very scary bumps in the road, Halie is excelling. She is making progress in weeks where doctors expected months. We could not be prouder of her and the progress she has made, and continues to make. She truly inspires us. This is still an uphill battle and we have a long road of recovery ahead.
